Camera Speed Dating – Leica Digilux

Those that know Meghan and I know that we have what appears to be an on going camera acquisition “problem”. Really all it is, is a desire to try all of the cameras!!!

We have started collecting many vintage cameras now over the past few years, but in an effort to not let our collection get out of hand we decided to only collect cameras that work and can actually be used.

However, not all are winners and some are just easier or more fun to use but you have to shoot with them first to find out! Thus, we decided if we run a roll through every camera we are interested in, not unlike going on a 5 minute date with a bunch of strangers at a singles night, we can quickly see which are worthy of being added to our collection. Camera speed dating!

Here is most recent camera I had the pleasure of a quick date with….Leica Digilux 1.5 mega pixels. (We decided to keep this oldie in the analogue section since it’s got so few mega pixels it is actually less sharp than any film…)

A few quick facts about the Leica Digilux, it is a 1.5 mega pixel digital camera that uses smart media. It has a 7.6mm f3.5 fixed lens.

While I suspect the only reason I bought this was its cool silver exterior, it might have also been a touch of curiosity. It has been quite a while since I’ve used a 1.5 megapixel digital camera!  I remember when these sleek machines came out! I also feel this particular camera is really just a Fuji in Leica clothing. I rather like how this camera seems to distort reality ever so slightly on the picture of Maki Cat. Its mild blurr is reminiscent of one of my faux TLR box cameras….
