Many people purchase adapters for their camera bodies to take advantage of certain lens qualities. We mostly see people adapting M42, Canon FD, and other similar mounts but if you’re looking for a step up in image quality the Leica R lenses are a great place to start. Not being made anymore, Leica R lenses are less expensive than the famed Leica M mount lenses yet have similar image quality. We tried out the Leitz Canada Summicron R 90mm f/2 Lens and the Leitz Super Angulon R 21mm f/4 on the Sony a7R with a used Metabones adapter that we have for sale in store and are quite impressed with the results.
The 90mm was a bit hard to focus due to the moving subject matter but when you do get proper focus, it’s very sharp. The bokeh is my favourite part of this lens though. Just look how cool the background of the images look and how creamy the bokeh is. One thing to note about this lens is the all metal construction making it durable yet heavy; it was much heavier than the A7R camera.
The 21mm is an impressive wide angle lens. Zero distortion, extremely sharp, and a close focusing distance of 0.2m. This is a fantastic choice for interiors, architecture, or landscapes. This lens is entirely made of metal as well so it will keep up with a life of adventure.
We have many more Leica R lenses available in store as well so if there is something you are looking for or are just curious, give us a call!
