The Proforo Hardbox is a unique light modifier used to create an extremely hard light. The Hardbox is basically the opposite of a softbox. In other words, it eliminates stray light and reduces the size of the light source. This allows you to create a light that is rich in contrast and very similar to direct sunlight with deep sharp shadows and pinpoint-sized highlights. To get the best results it is suggested that you replace the standard frosted glass cover on the flash head with a clear glass cover for the best effect.
Creates a light that is very similar to direct sunlight.

Originally designed for Profoto Proheads and Acute/D4 heads, you can get the same effect with a Profoto Compact 600w/s or 1200 w/s Monolight. On the new designed D1 and D2 Monolights you can achieve a somewhat similar effect when you replace the flat plate with the dome cover but not to the same degree as the flashtube is recessed inside the built-in reflector.
The following link is an article that illustrates the effect of the Profoto Hardbox as well as other light hard light modifiers. This in-depth article written by Profoto photographer Andrea Belluso. The accompanying video and photographs really illustrate the unique quality of light you get with the Profoto hardbox and the situations you may want to use it to create the image you have envisioned.
