Konica Recorder

Konica Recorder

The Konica Recorder is one I’ve always wanted to try. It’s another camera that caught my eye with its extreme good looks and unique design, but I hadn’t seen one IRL before. Then one of the regulars walked in with one! Another thing I love about the Beau Photo regular customers is that they are willing to lend me their cameras to try, so I was lucky enough to borrow a Konica Recorder! Downside of borrowing is, this camera is a half frame and at the start of winter it’s an arduous task to try and shoot through an entire 48ish exposure roll in a timely manner….

Its slim physique made it great to carry around everywhere with me, I took it to dinner, to b-side, on walks… however because of dismal weather and early sunset constraints it did take me forever to shoot through a roll!!! I eventually got it done. I had the roll developed at Rocket Repro and got them to scan the frames as if it were 35mm. I was shocked by how well the Recorder did with no flash and with flash just at sunset. I was less impressed with how it did in my dimly lit apartment with flash. I felt the flash was better as a fill, unlike my other point & shoot cameras where the flash blasts itself, blowing out everything. If this camera was as plentiful as all the other half frames I would for sure add it to the crowd of cameras that have gathered in my apartment.
