“Closer” – Mike’s Images

On Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, Beau Photo hosted a photo walk for the Capture Photography Festival. There were two groups, digital shooters and film shooters, and the somewhat rainy walk took us from Beau Photo down to Granville Island and back. I was the guide for the digital shooters. This year’s theme was “Closer” and my gallery of shots were taken with my Fujifilm X100V and accessory TCL-X100 II conversion lens, turning the 23mm f/2 into a 33mm f/2, which is equivalent to a 50mm on full-frame. I often have a tendency to go wide with my shots, encompassing both my subject and its surroundings, but this time (taking the theme somewhat literally) I attempted to compose most of my shots so that my main subject was closer, mostly filling the frame. Having only a 50mm equivalent meant that not all my subjects were quite as frame filling as they could have been at times, but I’ve included some of those regardless.
