Leica C3

The Leica C3 is a compact, fully automatic 35mm point and shoot camera produced by Leica from 2002-2005. The C3 stands out for its sharp zoom lens and build quality, making it a favourite among film enthusiasts. It’s praised for street photography and travel due to its quiet operation and wide angle capability, but it’s not without quirks like its plastic ergonomics and slow telephoto end.
The C3 has a Leica 28-80mm F3.6-7.9 Vario-Elmar Asph lens, which is very convenient for travel. The Aspherical Vario Elmar lens delivers sharp, high contrast images with vibrant colours and excellent saturation, even wide open at F3.6. Photographers speak highly of the camera’s performance for wide angle shots making it ideal for street photography and environmental portraits. At 28mm, it captures more scenes than a typical 35mm. The shutter is nearly silent making the shooting experience a stealthy choice for candid photography and for urban exploration without drawing attention. A neat feature about this camera is the exposure compensation, which helps in tricky lighting scenarios such as photographing snowy scenes without blowing out highlights, and the flash mode adds flexibility for low light.

If your thinking about getting into the Leica system without the M-series price tag, the C3 is a solid choice, especially for wide angle enthusiasts, or as a quiet daily carry. For the analog purist, preferred film stocks are  Rollei Retro 400s , Kodak Double X, Kentmere 200 and Kodak Vision 3 250D
