SUMMARY:Cyanotype Toning With Plants

In this workshop you will learn about toning cyanotypes to get other tones like brown and turquoise. Using various plant materials\, we will tone cyanotypes and talk about the many ways we can experiment with the process and affect the final colours. This is a sustainable process that doesn’t use any harsh chemicals\, just plant material you might find around your home. It is a good option for creating prints that have a historic process look without using silver nitrate or other chemicals that can be hard to find or need more caution when handling. The workshop will cover the process of toning with plants\, how to get different colours in the images\, which prints and papers work best for toning\, and what steps are next in the toning adventure. You will need to bring 4 – 5 of your cyanotype prints that you are willing to experiment with. Up to 8×10 only please! DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The origins of the word ‘photography’ come from the Greek words φῶς (phos)\, meaning “light\,” and γραφή (graphê)\, meaning “drawing\, writing.” The term originates with Sir John Herschel\, an astronomer\, mathematician\, chemist and the inventor of cyanotypes\, anthotypes\, and photographic fixer. \nWriters and photographers have been using their chosen craft to document and make statements about society\, culture\, and the world as they observe it since photography’s invention in 1839. We want to celebrate this history with photographs inspired by quotes from our favourite writers. \nJoin us on a photo excursion and celebrate this history by taking photographs inspired by quotes from your favourite writers. Exchange ideas and be inspired by others on the walk. Submit your best images for an exhibition in the Beau gallery space. \nFilm and digital cameras welcome! We will be starting at Beau and walking through parks and streets looking for the scenes to write in light that are inspired by quotes from our favourite writers. Come with a quote or we can share some of ours.
